The director Yulia Trofimova  (on the Industry@Tallinn&Baltic Event Film Forum Website): «I would like to explore the theme of coming of age in Russia today. On one hand, the story is universal, as a young person today is overwhelmed by the variety of choices in life, to the extent that he or she is unable to make a choice. On the other hand, Russian boys and girls are raised by their mothers (often without fathers), who survived through challenging times of the 90s and have preconceived ideas about safe career choices. They want to protect their children against the mistakes they made»

Actor Mark Eidelstein (Sasha) about the film: “For me, this is a film about a new generation of teenagers, about my brother. When I was in school, I wanted to be like Holden Caulfield, catching kids in the rye. When my father was in school, he wanted to be an astronaut. When I asked my 16-year-old brother what he would do after school, he replied: “A samurai has no goal, only a path.” “The Land of Sasha” is a search of what has changed, and a fixation of the fact that human relationships and feelings remain the main thing”

The story

Teenager Sasha cannot decide where to go and avoids serious relationships with girls. He blames his father, who abandoned him in early childhood, for his indecision. But meeting an unusual girl Zhenya makes the teenager, as well as his mother, who is afraid to let her son go, grow up.
